Students can divide the traditional way once they can explain what division means and show the meaning in picture or area model. One way for students to divide is by dividing using an area model, similar to multiplication. EXAMPLE: 108 / 9 = Step 1: Decompose the number 108 into two numbers that are divisible by 9. 90+18=108 Step 2: Divide 90 by 9 Step 3: Divide 18 by 9 Step 4: add any remainders. |
